Post Abortion Help
If you just recently had an abortion, it’s important to allow your body to heal. Get plenty of rest and follow any post-procedure instructions. Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if you are experiencing pain, fever, nausea or bleeding, or if something just doesn’t “feel right.”
It’s also important to care for yourself emotionally. The effects of an abortion can vary for each woman, depending on many factors, including her age, abortion circumstances, stage of pregnancy at the time of abortion and religious belief. Many women experience initial relief that the crisis is over, hoping that life will return to normal. And sometimes it does.
However, it’s not uncommon for women to experience difficult emotions after their abortion. Sometimes these emotions occur shortly after the procedure, but they might also take months, or even years, to surface.
It’s possible to suffer from flashbacks, sexual dysfunction, eating disorders, or drug or alcohol abuse after an abortion.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you’re not alone. You might be suffering from a psychological response called post-traumatic stress disorder. There’s no reason to be ashamed of your feelings or to feel afraid to discuss them. Other women have felt the same way, and they are available to help you. Remember, whether you’ve just had an abortion or it’s months or years later, there is hope for healing.
